How To Save Energy - Reducing Energy Consumption The Easy Way

April 22, 2009 · Filed Under Save Home Energy

The “how to save energy” topic has been a preoccupation of people these days.  Not only does it entail greater savings, which is mostly welcome in these trying times, it also promotes environmental protection, which has grown into the consciousness of people.

A typical American family spend about $1600 on home utilities. Just imagine the money that can be saved, not to mention the natural resources that can be conserved by reducing energy consumption. A lot of suggestions have been forwarded on how to save & reduce energy consumption and costs. Here is a list to remind you of some of them:

• Unplug or turn off power strips when appliances plugged into it are not in use. If cords are not unplugged, appliances usually assume a standby mode, which still consumes power.

• Driers use a lot of electricity. Dishes can be wiped and air dried instead of having to use the dishwasher’s drying cycle. Clothes can be hung to dry instead of using a clothes drier.

• Baths usually use a lot of water. You may shower instead and turn off the shower when you are soaping or shampooing yourself. Do this and you will see your water bill go down!

• Tires with low tire pressure actually waste gas. Gas mileage is decreased by 6% for every pound a tire is underinflated.

• Avoid aggressive driving like sudden braking and rapid acceleration as it wastes gasoline.  Drive calmly and with sense.

These may be only a very few tips for reducing energy but when done conscientiously, can make a noticeable difference in your costs and the environment.
