Solar Panels For Home - A Guide To Self Installation

March 21, 2009 · Filed Under Solar Power

People nowadays can take advantage of solar power to bring electricity to their homes. Home solar power panels or conveniently called solar panels are needed, of course. These panels also known as solar PV panels, as they use photovoltaic principles. Solar panels have silicon, which get electrically charged when sunlight hits it.

If you are living in the northern hemisphere, then you may direct your solar panels at solar south, and the opposite if you live in the southern hemisphere. You have to consider the geographic location and latitude of the solar roof, where the panels are usually installed, when determining the angle of installation.

To plan a home solar power system, you must consider the intensity of the sun’s rays, so factors such as weather in the area, the hour of the day, and time of the year. Of course, materials have to be prepared. Aside from the solar panel, you will also need a battery system or bank to power the solar panels, a charge controller with regulator, so that you can determine whether the batteries are fully-charged or need additional charging, an inverter to change the battery’s direct current power to standard electricity at 120/240 volts.

Once you have the tools needed for a home solar power system installation, you need to consult with someone who has experience in designing these systems or get a manual if you plan to go DIY.
